New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a special Rs 100 coin and a commemorative postal stamp to mark the 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The event, held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, was a historic moment that combined symbolism, legacy and a message for the future.

The newly released coin holds special significance as, for the first time in independent India history, it features an image of Bharat Mata seated on a lion in “varad mudra”, with swayamsevaks bowing before her. The commemorative postal stamp depicts RSS volunteers at the 1963 Republic Day Parade, a reminder of the organisation long-standing contribution to nation-building and public service.

PM Modi Message: Guard India Unity Against Demographic Challenges

Addressing swayamsevaks and dignitaries, PM Modi underlined the importance of unity and harmony in India cultural fabric. He cautioned against demographic changes that could threaten the country internal security and social cohesion.

“Unity in diversity has always been India soul. If this strength is broken, India will weaken. Today, social harmony faces a big threat from infiltrators, causing demographic shifts. This is not just a social issue—it is a question of internal security and our future. That is why I announced the Demographic Mission from the Red Fort, and we must remain alert and fight this challenge together,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister remarks drew attention to the challenges India faces in balancing cultural integrity with demographic changes, signalling that vigilance will be a key focus for governance in the coming years.

RSS Founded on Vijayadashami: ‘No Coincidence’

The Prime Minister also linked the centenary of the RSS with the spiritual and cultural symbolism of Vijayadashami, a festival that represents the victory of good over evil.

“Tomorrow is Vijayadashami, a festival that symbolises the triumph of justice over injustice, truth over falsehood, and light over darkness. The establishment of the RSS on this very day, 100 years ago, was no coincidence. It was deeply connected with the message of the festival,” Modi said.

Founded in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, the RSS has grown into one of India most influential organisations, guided by principles of discipline, service, and cultural unity.

A Tribute to Hedgewar and Generations of Volunteers

PM Modi also paid tribute to Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of RSS, hailing his vision of national service and commitment to unity.

“It is the fortune of today generation of swayamsevaks that they are witnessing this historic centenary celebration. On this occasion, I extend my best wishes to millions of volunteers and bow at the feet of our revered founder Dr. Hedgewar ji. His vision continues to inspire generations in serving the nation selflessly,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also recognised the dedication of swayamsevaks who, over decades, have played an active role in disaster relief, community service, and promoting cultural awareness.

A Symbol of 100 Years of Service

The release of the coin and stamp is seen as both a symbolic and historic gesture. The Rs 100 coin not only commemorates the RSS centenary but also marks the entry of Bharat Mata on Indian currency for the first time. Similarly, the postal stamp pays tribute to the organisation century-long role in strengthening India social fabric.

With its roots in discipline and service, the RSS has remained at the centre of India socio-cultural life for a century. The centenary celebrations reflect not just a milestone for the organisation but also highlight its enduring influence on Indian society and politics.
